Library Services for Users with Disabilities

The University of Wisconsin General Library System (GLS) is committed to providing equal information access to all library users. When possible, immediate service is provided. Some requests may take 24 hours or longer. For additional questions, contact library staff on duty or the Head of Access Services at 262-7479 (voice) or 265-2754 (fax). Services to patrons with disabilities are listed below. Memorial Library has a specific web page describing services for patrons with disabilities.

Requests for reference assistance can be made by email, phone or on-site.
  • Paging Service/Retrieval of Materials: Patrons approved by McBurney Disability Resource Center can request to have materials from any campus library sent to the Memorial Library Circulation Desk for pickup or can request a proxy card which allows another individual to check out materials in the name of the cardholder. Students can also use Library Express to request articles from journals in libraries on campus, as well as books and articles not available on campus. Please see How to Order Books and Articles for additional information if you are approved for paging services through McBurney.
  • Circulation Policy Modifications: Modifications that may be requested include extended loan periods, allowing non-circulating materials to be checked out and renewing/recalling materials by phone or email.

Patrons approved by McBurney Disability Resource Center can request to have materials from any campus library photocopied and sent to the Memorial Library Circulation Desk for pickup.
